Mazda6 diesel will not come to U.S. until next year
AUTOCOM CDP Pro Diesel Mazda Mazda6 sedan , which the company had originally planned to enter the U.S. market this year, will not come to the United States until April 2014, according to Automotive News . Once released, the car will be the first in the U.S. to feature SKYACTIV - D diesel engine Mazda .
In a statement quoted by USA Today , Mazda said: " The sale of Mazda6 SKYACTIV - clean diesel D was moved to the end of spring 2014 , to reflect the final emissions and certification tests. " The Mazda6 diesel is already on sale in Europe and Japan , where demand for diesel ( and gas prices ) is very high . However, emissions regulations are different there than in the United States

Diesels are becoming increasingly popular in the U.S. The New York Times reports that sales of diesel cars and SUVs increased by nearly 26 percent between 2011 and 2012.
Volkswagen in particular, has found success with its range of diesel cars - TDI engine brand. Forbes reports that the diesel versions of the Jetta , Passat and Golf is a record 24 percent year to date U.S. sales of VW in August
